What is an ‘Active Apply’ fund?

Most funds on ActionFunder automatically match to projects that meet the fund’s criteria. However, an ‘Active Apply’ fund works a little differently.

With an Active Apply fund, projects are not automatically matched. Instead, you’ll need to actively identify whether you have a suitable project and apply directly via the fund page. This is more akin to the traditional funding application process, where to apply, you have to apply directly to this fund using the ‘apply now’ button on the fund page. 

These funds are often more targeted or specific, so it’s important to carefully review the fund criteria before applying.

How does an Active Apply fund work?

• You won’t be necessarily be automatically notified or matched to this fund
• You might hear about this fund in a few ways: directly from the funder, via ActionFunder, through your network, or by checking your ActionFunder dashboard
• You must apply directly through the fund page
• You can apply using:
  
  
  • An existing ActionFunder project that aligns with the fund criteria, or
    
  • A new project you create specifically for this fund
    

How to apply to an Active Apply fund

1. Log in to ActionFunder
   
2. Visit the fund page and review the criteria carefully. Ask yourself:
   
   
   • Does my project align with the fund’s focus?
     
   • Is the project based in the required location?
     
   • Does the funding amount I’m requesting fall within the minimum and maximum grant amounts?
     
3. If your project is suitable, click ‘Apply now’ on the fund page.
   
4. Choose to either:
   
   
   • Submit one of your existing projects on ActionFunder, or
     
   • Create a new project to apply with
     

Top tips before applying

• Read the fund criteria in full – Active Apply funds are often more specific than usual
  
• Only apply if your project clearly meets the fund’s requirements
