Setting up your organisation profile

Updated on November 6, 2026

Your profile tells ActionFunder and funders who you are, what you do and where you work. ActionFunder uses it to match you with relevant funds, and funders read it when they review your projects.

You only fill it in once. It’s then used for every project you create, so keep it up to date.

Track your progress

Your dashboard shows a profile completion percentage and a checklist of what’s left:

  • Description
  • Location
  • Focus areas
  • Logo
  • Legal set up
  • Online presence

Click Complete profile to pick up where you left off.

What to include

Key organisation details

  • Organisation name: as it appears on your governing document and bank account.
  • Description: a short outline of what your organisation does. Be specific. “We run weekly cooking sessions for older people in Hackney” tells a funder far more than “we support the community”.
  • Organisation type: choose the option that best describes you. Once your profile is set up, contact us if you need to change it. Choosing your organisation type and legal structure
  • Organisation setup year

Location

Add the primary address for your organisation. Location is one of the main things funds match on, so make sure it’s accurate.

Run activities in more than one place? Add them as additional locations. Funders offering volunteering are matched against all of your locations, not just the main one. Funds are matched against your primary address only, and each project is matched on its own location.

Focus areas

Choose at least one focus area. Think about all the services and activities you run, not just your headline cause.

For example, a youth club that also runs a food bank might select Food action and Poverty and homelessness for the food bank, and Mental health and wellbeing and Physical health and sport for its youth sessions. That way it’s matched with funds for all of its work, not just one part of it.

Who you work with

Select the groups your work benefits. Funders use this to check against their criteria. It also appears on your public profile and pre-fills the same question when you create a volunteering opportunity.

Track record (optional)

Add impact data, an outcome you achieved, or a quote from someone you’ve worked with. Even a small delivery history builds trust with funders.

Upload a JPEG, PNG or SVG up to 1MB.

Online and social presence

Add your website or at least one social media link (Facebook, Instagram, X or LinkedIn). You need at least one to complete your profile.

Phone number

Use international format. Replace the first 0 with +44, so 07769 111111 becomes +447769111111.

Information for due diligence

Your profile also has a section for further information that funders and our due diligence checks require. You’ll need to complete this before any funding can be paid, but you don’t have to do it on day one. Doing it early means faster payment when you’re offered funding. What we ask for during our due diligence checks, and why

Keep it current

If your address, focus areas, contact details or bank details change, update your profile. Out-of-date information can mean you miss matches or payments are delayed.

Profile won’t save?

If Save doesn’t work, or you’re told your profile is incomplete when you try to accept a funding offer, work through these checks. Scroll through the whole form, because the field with the problem may be further up or down the page.

In Settings > Profile

  • Logo: a JPEG, PNG or SVG file, 1MB or smaller, and no bigger than 2,048 by 2,048 pixels. A small file can still be rejected if the image is very wide or tall, so try resizing it.
  • Description: add one. You can’t accept a funding offer without it.
  • Organisation phone number: +44 followed by 10 digits, with no spaces or brackets. Drop the first 0 of your number, so 07769 111111 becomes +447769111111.
  • Address: Address line 1, City and Postcode are required, and the postcode must be a valid UK postcode. We use your postcode to place you on the map, so check it carefully.
  • Focus areas: choose at least one.
  • Online & social presence: add your website or at least one social media link, as a full web address (for example https://www.example.com).
  • Organisation setup year: required, and it can’t be in the future.

Before you can accept a funding offer, your Logo, Description, address, Focus areas and website or social link must all be filled in. Your dashboard’s profile completion checklist shows anything that’s missing.

In Settings > Organisation

Registration numbers. If your organisation type is Registered charity or social enterprise, enter at least one of these:

Field Format
Company number Eight characters: two capital letters or two digits, then six digits (for example 01234567 or SC123456)
England & Wales charity number 6 to 8 digits
Scottish charity number SC followed by 6 digits (for example SC012345)
Other registration number Any format. Use this for numbers that don’t fit the others, such as a community benefit society or co-operative society number

Community groups don’t have to enter a registration number. If you enter a charity number, we look it up with the charity regulator. If you see “Unable to retrieve details from the charity regulator”, check the number and that it’s in the right field.

Phone number. The same +44 format as above.

Key people. Each person needs a first name, last name, email, date of birth and a full home address, including County. You also need exactly one Representative and at least one Owner, Director and Executive. Key people: who to add and why

Still can’t save? Take a screenshot of the page and send it to us, and we’ll find the problem.
