Who can apply for funding on ActionFunder?

Updated on November 6, 2026

ActionFunder is open to all types of non-profit organisations operating anywhere in the UK. If your project benefits people or the planet in a specific place, there’s likely a fund it could match with.

What you need to be eligible

To receive funding through ActionFunder, your organisation must:

  • be based in the UK
  • be constituted, with a governing document such as a constitution, articles of association or trust deed
  • have a bank account in your organisation’s name. We can only pay the organisation that applies, so personal accounts and fiscal hosts can’t receive the funds
  • be running a project that benefits a local community

Don’t have a bank account or constitution yet? You can still sign up and create projects while you sort these out. You’ll need them before any funding can be paid. Tips for setting up a community group bank account

  • Animal welfare
  • Climate and nature
  • Education and employment
  • Food action
  • Mental health and wellbeing
  • Neighbourhood
  • Physical health and sport
  • Poverty and homelessness
  • Sustainable consumption & production

Common questions

We’ve only just set up. Can we apply? Yes. ActionFunder doesn’t set a minimum age or income for your organisation. Before you’re paid, you’ll upload your governing document and latest accounts. If you don’t have a full year of accounts yet, upload a simple table of your income and expenditure instead. Governing documents and accounts

Can a sole trader or individual apply? No. Applications come from organisations, and there’s no way to sign up as an individual or sole trader. Individuals can still be involved in a project that an eligible organisation runs.

Every fund has its own criteria

Being eligible to join ActionFunder doesn’t mean you’re eligible for every fund. Each funder sets its own criteria, such as location, grant size, focus area and who the project benefits. How matching works
