As a funder on ActionFunder, you may receive more matched projects than your fund can support. This means that some projects will need to be rejected. Rejecting a project is a normal part of the decision-making process—and helps ensure your funding is directed where it will have the greatest impact.
This article explains the two main approaches to managing rejections, how to reject a project, and what happens next.
Two ways to manage rejections
There are two main ways to approach project rejection:
- Review and reject as you go – As soon as a project is matched with your fund, you can review it and reject it straight away if it doesn’t meet your criteria.
- Wait until the fund closes – Once the fund has closed, you can review all matched projects, score them, and reject any that don’t make the cut.
Both approaches are valid and you may choose to do a mixture of both – it depends on your preferences and workflow.
How to reject a project
To reject a project:
- Go to your Fund Match List
- Find the project you wish to reject
- Click the ‘Reject’ button
The non-profit will automatically receive an email informing them that their application was unsuccessful. Their project will stay on ActionFunder and may be matched with a different fund in future.
Can I undo a rejection?
Yes. If you change your mind or reject a project in error, just contact your Customer Success Manager as soon as possible. They’ll be able to reinstate the project to your match list, so it’s available for review and funding again.
What happens after a rejection?
- The organisation is notified by email
- Their project remains live on ActionFunder and visible to other funders
- They can still be matched with and apply to other funds
Rejecting a project doesn’t remove the organisation from the platform or prevent them from seeking funding elsewhere.
