How does ActionFunder work for non-profits?

Updated on July 24, 2025

ActionFunder is a platform that connects grassroots, community-led projects with businesses and funders looking to make a local impact. For non-profits, it’s a simple, fast, and accessible way to secure funding for vital projects.

Here’s how it works:

1. Create a project

Once signed up to ActionFunder, non-profits can publish live projects seeking funding. A project can be anything from running a youth club, buying sports equipment, or delivering climate action workshops — as long as it’s community-focused, it can be added to the platform.

2. Get matched with funds

When a funder launches a fund with specific criteria (such as location, focus areas, or beneficiary groups), ActionFunder automatically matches it with relevant live projects. non-profits will be notified by email if one of their projects is matched. If a non-profit doesn’t have a suitable project live at the time but meets the fund criteria, they can easily upload a new project to be considered.

3. Receive funding

If a funder selects a project for funding, non-profits are notified and asked to confirm that they’re able to deliver the project. After due diligence checks are completed, the funding is transferred directly to the organisation, usually within 30 days.

4. Sharing their impact

Once the project is underway or complete, non-profits are asked to share two updates and a short impact survey. This helps funders see the difference their support has made – and helps non-profits build relationships for future funding opportunities.
