Guidance on using the Voting Tool

Updated on July 24, 2025

The Voting Tool on ActionFunder is a simple and effective way to involve multiple stakeholders in the decision-making process. Whether you’re working with a team or want to bring community voices into funding decisions, the Voting Tool enables you to collect input in a clear, structured way.

This article walks you through how to use the tool, step by step.

What is the Voting Tool?

The Voting Tool allows you to invite others – such as colleagues, community members, or local decision-makers – to review and vote on matched project applications. Each voter is given access to a tailored list of projects via a URL link

It’s a great way to ensure transparency, encourage collaboration, and make confident, community-backed decisions.

When to use the Voting Tool

Use the Voting Tool when:

  • You want a group of people to help score or rank project applications
  • You’re running a community or participatory fund
  • You’re looking for a simple way to gather structured feedback before making final funding decisions

How to set it up

  1. Select your projects – Decide which matched projects you’d like voters to review and move them to your shortlist. This could be all matched projects or a shortlist you’ve created.
  1. Enable voting – From your shortlist, click ‘Enable voting on shortlist’ and input your desired information.
  1. Invite your voters – Share the unique link to the Voting Tool with your selected participants. They’ll receive instructions to review and score each project.
