Sometimes a standard application doesn’t tell you everything you need to know. Custom application questions let you ask non-profits the specific questions that matter most to your fund – so you get the information you need to make confident funding decisions.
What are custom application questions?
Custom application questions are additional questions that non-profits must answer after matching with or applying to your fund. They appear after the initial application and must be completed before a project is fully matched.
If you’d like to add custom application questions to your fund, get in touch with us at customersuccess@actionfunder.org.
How it works
Once custom application questions are set up for your fund, non-profits will be prompted to answer them as part of the matching process. A few things to know:
- All questions must be answered before submission – there are no optional fields
- Answers cannot be edited once submitted
- Each project answers the questions once per project – if an organisation has multiple projects matched to your fund, each project will answer separately
Seeing who has answered
When managing your fund, you’ll see a green tick on each project showing whether they have completed your custom application questions. This is visible across all tabs, so you can quickly spot who still needs to respond:

Viewing answers
You can view a project’s answers on their project application page. Answers appear in a section titled Additional Questions beneath the first three questions, with each question and answer clearly grouped.
This section is only visible to you as the funder and to the project’s own managers. See example below:
Downloading the data
To review answers in bulk, you can download your applications from your fund management dashboard. The download includes all custom application question answers for matched projects and is available as a CSV download.
