What we ask for during our due diligence checks – and why

Updated on July 25, 2025

Before your organisation can receive funding through ActionFunder, we need to carry out a standard due diligence check. This is an important step to ensure that funding is going to legitimate, well-governed, and financially responsible non-profits.

We aim to make this process as straightforward as possible. Here’s what we ask for – and why we ask for it:

1. Key organisation information

We’ll ask for your organisation’s legal name, registered address, charity/company number (if applicable), and contact details.

Why?
This helps us confirm your organisation’s identity and registration status. It’s also essential for verifying that you’re eligible to receive funding through ActionFunder.

2. Key people information

We need you to provide details of individuals who hold key roles within your organisation. For more information, see our article on – Why we ask for key people information.

Why?
We work with Stripe, a secure payment provider, to verify organisations and process your grant payments. As a regulated financial service, Stripe must check the identity of their customers before processing payments. This is a legal requirement called “Know Your Customer” checks.

To meet these requirements, we need information about the key people in your organisation.

3. Governing document

We’ll ask for a copy of your governing document (e.g. constitution, articles of association, or trust deed).

Why?
This sets out your organisation’s purpose, structure, and rules. It helps us ensure your organisation operates on a not-for-profit basis and that your aims align with our funders’ values.

4. Recent annual accounts

We require your most recent annual accounts or financial statements.

Why?
We use this to assess your financial health and to confirm that your organisation is active and managing its funds responsibly. This is particularly important for funders who want reassurance about where their money is going.

5. Bank details

We’ll ask for organisation’s name, account number, and sort code. If additional information is required we may ask to see a recent bank statement.

Why?
This allows us to verify that your organisation has a valid UK bank account in its name, which is essential for transferring any funding. We do not accept personal or third-party bank accounts.

The benefit for you

Complete this section once, and you’re done. You won’t need to provide this information again for future grants through ActionFunder. This means:

  • Less paperwork for future applications
  • Faster grant payments
  • More time to focus on your important work

Just remember to update any details if things change from your account settings page.

Keeping your information safe

We take data protection seriously. All information you provide is stored securely and used only for the purposes of verifying your eligibility to receive funding. You can read more in our Privacy Policy.
