Managing your fund budget is an important part of running a successful funding round. Whether you end up with an underspend or an overspend, ActionFunder is here to help you navigate the next steps.
If you have an underspend
An underspend happens when the total value of the projects you choose to fund comes in under your original budget.
Your options:
- Fund additional projects: Return to your match list and select more projects to fund until your budget is fully allocated.
- Top up existing grants: If appropriate, you can increase funding for already-selected projects. Please discuss this with your Customer Success Manager to ensure feasibility.
If you have an overspend
An overspend means the total funding offered exceeds your budget.
Your options:
- Top up your fund: If you’d like to proceed with all offers, you may choose to increase your fund value to cover the difference.
- Contact your Customer Success Manager: We can help you rebalance your allocations or explore alternative solutions.
Best practice
We generally encourage funders to fully fund projects rather than offering a reduced amount to fit within a remaining budget. non-profits invest significant time and effort into developing their applications, including detailed budget breakdowns that reflect the true cost of delivering their project. Funding less than requested can create challenges for delivery and may compromise the quality or impact of the work. If you’re unable to fully fund a project, we recommend selecting projects that align with your available budget or speaking to your Customer Success Manager about alternative options.
