Nomination forms are a simple and effective way to collect suggestions for local community groups or projects that could benefit from your funding. They’re especially useful when you want to encourage stakeholders — such as employees, residents, or customers — to get involved in the early stages of the funding process.
This article covers what nomination forms are, when and why to use them, and best practices for collecting meaningful nominations.
What is a nomination form?
A nomination form allows people to put forward a group, organisation, or project that they believe deserves funding. It typically includes basic information about the group and why it should be considered.
At ActionFunder, we can create and host the nomination form for you. You’ll be given a URL to share with your audience — via email, social media, or internal comms — and all nominations will be collected in one place.
When should you use one?
Nomination forms are great when:
- You want to generate a pipeline of relevant community groups to invite to your fund
- You’re unsure which groups are active in a particular area or theme
- You’d like to involve employees, customers, or local stakeholders in shaping the fund
- You want to signal openness, transparency, and community engagement
What to include in a nomination form
Here’s what a standard form includes:
- Nominator’s name and email (optional or required depending on your goals)
- Name of the group or project
- Contact details for the group (if known)
What happens after nominations are submitted?
Once nominated, the non-profit is invited to register on ActionFunder and create a project, which will be flagged as “nominated.” If they’re already on the platform, any eligible project they create or have that aligns with the fund will be marked as “nominated” too.
Please note: being nominated does not guarantee funding — it simply gives the group an opportunity to apply.
