Staying in touch with grantees using the messaging tool

Updated on July 29, 2025

Once you’ve funded a project, staying connected with the non-profit can add real value – whether it’s offering extra support, celebrating milestones, or exploring future opportunities. The in-platform messaging tool on ActionFunder makes it easy to keep in touch.

Why use the messaging tool?

The messaging tool allows you to:

  • Share useful information (e.g. resources, deadlines, event invites)
  • Request updates beyond the standard platform milestones
  • Arrange a site visit to see the project in action
  • Explore future opportunities for funding or collaboration
  • Celebrate successes and build long-term relationships

How to message a grantee

  1. Log in to your ActionFunder account
  2. In the bottom left hand corner, there’s an image on an envelope titled ‘inbox’
  3. From here you can message grantees individually or as a group
  4. Click the “New Message” button to start a conversation

Messages are sent directly to the non-profit’s project lead and appear in their ActionFunder inbox.

Best practice tips

  • Keep messages friendly and clear – your grantees are often small teams with limited time
  • Use the messaging tool for project-specific communication
  • Avoid sharing sensitive information
  • If you’re planning a visit or collaboration, give plenty of notice
